Alesse approved by FDA more than 10 years ago is now one of the most effective birth control pills. When taken as directed, it's 99% effective. Alesse contains several natural female hormones that prevent ovulation (i.e., the release of an egg from an ovary). Alesse also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, preventing a man's sperm from entering the uterus and making it harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.
